Charlie: How do you like your meat?

Of all the moments we’ve shared, this little snippet of conversation, circa our fourth or fifth date, is the one my now-husband, Charlie, pinpoints as the moment he realized we had  something special. Sure, we had plenty in common already. We were both writers. Both music lovers. Both Northeastern natives transplanted to Florida. But when we realized how much we both voraciously, almost obsessively adored meat, well, that pretty much sealed the deal.

Three years and many, many medium-rare steak dinners later, we decided to do something with our shared passion: share it with others. We are not chefs, or food critics, or experts of any kind. Just two regular people who really love meat and want to talk to and hear from others just like us. You know who you are. People who can name the date, place and cut of their “best steak ever” without thinking twice. People who are willing to take cross-country road trips to try a burger they saw on TV. People who cannot walk past a butcher counter without stopping dead in their tracks to stare, slack-jawed at the selection of fresh-cut cowboy ribeyes. People who have been caught, literally red-handed, fondling a package of prime steaks at Costco (okay so maybe that was just me, but you get the point and besides it was PRIME!  And, for just $10 a pound or something stupidly cheap like that). People for whom the word “marbling” elicits a thrill that borders on the obscene.
